Claude Fable 5 is back, with 2 catches

GPT-5.6 vs Claude Mythos and Fable: which model is better? OpenAI just rolled out the GPT-5.6 family: Sol, Terra, and Luna. They’re clearly aimed at Claude’s top models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, so I dug through the published benchmarks to see how the matchup looks. Here’s the breakdown. For coding, GPT-5.6 Sol takes the lead and sets a new state of the art. Terra, OpenAI’s everyday model, is roughly on par with Claude Fable 5. Even Luna, the cheapest GPT-5.6 model, beats Claude Opus 4.8 in the coding results. So for coding, OpenAI wins. Security is a different story. Claude Mythos 5 still looks like the strongest cybersecurity model out there, especially on exploit-focused benchmarks. It beats GPT-5.6 Sol here, so Claude takes the security round. Price is where things get ugly for Claude. Fable 5 and Mythos 5 are priced at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. GPT-5.6 Sol is about half the input cost. Terra is around a quarter of Claude’s input price, and Luna is roughly a fifth of Claude Opus 4.8. On cost, OpenAI wins by a lot. At the moment, neither GPT-5.6 nor Claude’s Fable 5 and Mythos 5 are fully available to the public yet. So which one are you most excited to try?
